A huge, sloppy-wet "thanks!" to everyone who came down to The Well last week for New Year/New Start 2011!
We had an amazing time (stress? what stress?) and the turn-out seriously couldn't have been better - including band-members we reckon there were about 325 people milling about! At a DIY punk gig... in Leeds... in 2011. Get in. So many old friends and faces too added to the feeling that we'd all transported back in time 6 years!
All the bands were brilliant and definitely went away with some new fans - cheers to you all for playing! Alas I never get to see everyone because of time spent on the door but personal highlights for me included the one-off Eighty Six gig (brilliant mix of old and new(er) songs capped with a perfect Jawbreaker cover), Caves, The Dauntless Elite and Peachfuzz. I'm really looking forward to seeing The Brown Hound James Band properly at some point and, from where I was listening, Attack! Vipers! sounded phenomenal. Popping my head around the door for Milloy, when the crowd in the main room was HUGE, made me so glad I decided to give this thing another go and reaffirmed my faith in the "for the love of it" ethic.
The midnight acoustic set by Dave Hause (of The Loved Ones) and Franz Nicolay (and Helen Chambers) and Juvi Hall just cemented all of that.
Extra thanks to to all the staff at The Well for being super nice and utterly relaxed all day - despite the lateness of the bands and the last minute requests.
Now all we have to do is figure out a way of topping it in 2012. :-)
