BO15: Kelly 8 reunion!
Posted: 9th September 2013
Tagged: Kelly 8
Our favourite Swedish friends will be joining us for our 15th Anniversary Celebration this October
Kelly 8 joined Bombed Out way back in 2002 and to this day are the only band we've ever chosen to work with on the strength of a demo alone. Two demo's in fact which went on to become the bands first release (minus one song that was released on Deep Elm's Emo Diaries Chapter 8 compilation).
The Setup came out early 2003 to coincide with a short tour with The Mercy Suite and an appearance at that year's NYNS all-dayer. We quickly became good friends (all 3 members of Bombed Out went along for the ride!). 2 further albums (2004's The Technique Of Pushing Someone Forward and 2009's The Union) and a brilliant tour with Dugong followed before the band decided to call it a day back in 2010.
We had discussed them visiting for NYNS '11 to play one last gig in the UK but when that fell through it felt like we'd never get that chance again... Well never say never!
Now fully confirmed (i.e. flights booked) we're chuffed to announce that the band will be back together one last time to play our birthday gig on October 5th at The Brudenell in Leeds (Facebook event thingy here). Come along and give them a fitting farewell!

RIP Kelly 8

All good things must come to an end and it is with heavy hearts that we announce the end of Kelly 8.
Following on from the last news update where we mentioned that Dan would be leaving the band, I got an e-mail from Jacob. In his own words, "after some considerations we decided that a Kelly 8 without Dan wouldn't be a decent Kelly 8. As a matter of fact, it's not an alternative at all..."
We're obviously gutted to hear this. After 3 great CDs, UK tours with The Mercy Suite and Dugong, on which we tagged along, plus some fantastic appearances at our annual all-dayer, we'd come to know and love the band as much as all their UK label mates. Probably more so because they could teach us how to swear in Swedish, which is kinda cool.
On the up side, there is already a new band in the works which will feature the remaining 3/4 of Kelly 8: Pia, Jacob (now on guitar), Joakim; along with and a new drummer and, if early indications are anything to go by, the sound should please long-time 8 fans.
So, to conclude... Rest in peace, Kelly 8!
... Oh yeah ...
And because we couldn't let them bow out so easily it gives me a bittersweet pleasure to say that the band will play their last UK gig ever at New Year / New Start 2011 at The Well, Leeds on the 15th January. Come along, you won't get another chance!!

Kelly 8 "No Sounds Amplify" video
Posted: 13th August 2010
Tagged: Kelly 8
Kelly 8 have been busy over the last few months filming a video for the song "No Sounds Amplify" from The Union album. Directed by Alex Giacomini it's definitely the most professional video yet from one of our lovely bands so please check it out.
No news yet on the new guitarist front but when we know something we'll post about it I'm sure. Itching to get the band back over to the UK for some gigs!

Kelly 8 and guitarist part ways

Kelly 8 and guitarist Dan "Kaufax" Åkhagen are parting ways as Dan has decided to hang up his Charvel, at least for now.
After 9 years with the band, and with Dan's guitar playing being such an integral part of that Kelly 8 "sound" we're wishing the band the best in finding a replacement, something which Dan is lending a hand with. We also wish Dan all the best for the future. Take care mate.

The new Kelly 8 album, The Union, is now avaliable for pre-order . 10 brand new songs and a cover of Dugong’s “Quick to the City” (which needs to be heard) announce the band’s return in typically stylish fashion as they continue in the post-hardcore tradition of their previous releases. To listen to 4 new songs from the album, and as a sneak peak at the direction that our new web site design is taking, head on over to this promo page.
The album will be in the shops mid-June and we’ll be announcing a digital version before then too.

Brand New Kelly 8 Album Out October 11th
Posted: 1st October 2004
Tagged: Kelly 8
Kelly 8 have returned from their 5 week stint in the studio with 12 brand new tracks that'll make up The Technique of Pushing Someone Forward, the new album.
For the uninitiated, Kelly 8 are a post-rock band in the truest sense of the phrase. This isn't weak indie or technical metal - this is a sound that harks back to those late 80's/early 90's Dischord bands that broke new ground with every new record without forgetting how to rock. On top of this you get Pia's fantastic vocals, a voice way more powerful, controlled and versatile than our scene deserves.
The Technique of Pushing Someone Forward makes for one hell of a great listen. From the dark electronic intro to "Break a Habit" to the heavy punk drive of "The Carrier", the band break new ground while still retaining that unique as hell sound.
We're chuffed as chuffed kids can be with this one! If you thought The Setup was good, just wait until you get a load of this.
Tracks are as follows. Please check out the highlighted mp3s!
- Exit
- Dead End
- Straight Through Me
- Uppsala
- Break a Habit
- Minus One
- Moscow Time: Daylight
- The Carrier
- Here´s to Nothing
- Summer Blonde
- George
- Departure
Distribution is via Shellshock and Forte.
