The Take reform for tribute gigs
Posted: 10th June 2010
Tagged: The Take
The Take are reforming for two gigs at the start of July. Don't get excited though, this is reportedly going to be a one (two?) off as they play Le Pub along with a reunited Douglas as a memorial to John Sicolo, the TJ's owner who died earlier this year at age 66. The two dates are Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th July and I believe tickets for both have now sold out (contact the venue in case there are Sunday tickets left).
TJ's in Newport was kinda like the Welsh CBGBs and the number of great bands that have played there over the years is just crazy. The late BBC DJ and presenter John Peel dubbed the venue "the legendary TJ's" on his radio shows and our own man from The Valleys, Jamie Duncan, spent a good deal of time discovering new and great music there back in the day.

The final song recorded by The Take during the Dolomite sessions in December 2004 has now been uploaded to the band’s MySpace page. Sweet Jump is a fantastic swan-song and a reminder of just how good The Take were.
On a related note, Pete is now playing for The New 1920 while Jim and Charlie now have a new band, Markers. Both are worth checking out.

The Take's final gig plans
Posted: 12th March 2007
Tagged: The Take
As you may or may not have heard, The Take have decided to call it a day. We're truly saddened by this news as they really were one of our favourate bands in the UK, like, ever.
We remain humbled by the fact that we even got to release the band's 2nd album, Dolomite. Bands of The Take's calibre do not come along often in this country and they will be sorely missed.
From the band themselves:
For a variety of reasons, we've decided to decided to call it a day. The break up all culminated in a short space of time but was basically unavoidable.
Apart from being an escape to focus our creative energies, this band has acted as a way of meeting some of the most amazing people from our locale, up and down the U.K. and across the globe. People who will stay friends long after the dust settles, the guitars have been unplugged and after our ears have stopped ringing.
Thanks to everyone who has supported and helped us over the years. It's still mind blowing to us that people spent their hard earned money on buying our records and coming to see us play.
I think that's about it. Thanks again, and take care!
Jim, Charles, Pete and Nat.
The Take will play one final gig on the 6th April at Clwb Ifor Bach, Cardiff. Supports will no doubt be announced soon so keep checking back.
We wish Jim, Charlie, Pete and Nat all the best for the future.
R.I.P. The Take.

You can now pre-order the fantastic new album by The Take, titled Dolomite, in our on-line store.
Pre-orders will ship the 4th September, a month before the album's official release date in the shops and before the band embark of a 2 week UK/France/Italy tour.
The only way you'll get a copy of the album before this is if you can make either the Leeds Out of Spite festival mid-August or The Take's album-launch party in Cardiff that's on the 4th August.
This is the CD version - we'll get some copies of the Art For Blind/Detournement released LP version as soon as it's ready.

Bombed Out on The Take

Tagged: The Take
We're chuffed to announce that Cardiff's The Take have now joined the Bombed Out crew - just in time for us to release their brand new second album, Dolomite (their debut album, Propeller, is still available on Household Name Records).
Dolomite will be released on CD this summer with a limited edition vinyl release to follow a few months later.
If you've never heard The Take before we'll just say that this band embodies everything we've loved about music in the last 10 years with a sound that combines the lyrical poetry of Jawbreaker with the intelligent post-rock suss of J Robbins' finest bands. We'll get a couple of mp3's up here soon to prove it, along with a full biography.
The full track-listing for Dolomite will be:
- Leather Jacket
- Sample Life
- Rubber Pigs
- Slow Ender
- Hand Over Fist
- Laika
- Handshakes
- Dover
- Patient
- Stay Connected
- Awake for Hours
- The Lizard and the Light
- Who's Right
Plans are also afoot for the band to hit the road upon the record's release. We'll keep you posted on dates.
