BO15: Hat Danko LP Pre-order

Reissue of Dugong's fantastic second album to mark it's 10th anniversary and Bombed Out's 15th anniversary
While Dugong's debut album, The Eastmoor Rules, was a great melodic punk record, it only hinted at what the band would go on to produce in Hat Danko - a record that delivered on all fronts as the influences that crept into the bands sound prior to this were here fully explored. To put it bluntly, each and every song on this record is a classic and together they made for one of the most ambitious, varied (yet cohesive) and, above all else, strongest, releases we've ever put out.
It was with this in mind that we decided to celebrate both the 10th anniversary of Hat Danko and the 15th anniversary of Bombed Out with a limited edition LP reissue. The reissue will be released on 180g (that's the heavy stuff) white vinyl, will be wrapped in a lovely gate-fold sleeve and is limited to 250 hand-numbered copies.
The new artwork is once again the work of Paul Heys who wanted to update and move on a little from what he'd done with the CD artwork 10 years earlier. Hopefully you approve!
The Hat Danko LP is up for pre-order now and will ship on or before the 14th October or - if you're coming to the Bombed Out 15th Anniversary gig - you can pick a copy up in person on October 5th when the band will be playing this one off event. We can't wait!

BO15: Tonight this is perfect

Wakefield's finest reunite for the Bombed Out birthday celebration and Hat Danko to get a vinyl release!
It's been a long time coming - Dugong played their last gig back in 2005 - but these Wakefield heroes have agreed to get back together to help us celebrate our 15th anniversary this October. Yes, we are as surprised (and excited) as anyone and to prove we're not just getting ahead of ourselves, the above photo was taken at last night's practice. Never say never...
Now, given that our 15th Anniversary also happens to be Hat Danko's 10th Anniversary we're looking at doing a limited run LP release of this amazing album; one of our favourite releases and one that has surely stood the test of time. How well this does will dictate whether any other classic Bombed Out releases (and other Dugong releases) will also get the same treatment. More news on this as and when.
As for the Bombed Out Anniversary gig - other bands so far confirmed include The Dauntless Elite, Wooderson, Peachfuzz, The Amistad, Zapiain and The Brown Hound James Band. More to come...
It all kicks off on October 5th at The Brudenell Social Club in Leeds. Let's get nostalgic!

Dugong on Hiatus

For anyone who hasn’t already heard, Dugong are going on an indefinite break after their appearance at the Out of Spite festival in a couple of weeks time. From the band’s website, Tim explains why:
“Our appearance at The Out of Spite Festival on August 14th will be our last gig for some months, and quite possibly ever. Basically, for certain people in the band (ie, me!) its started to feel like a bit of a chore lately. It's not a case of falling out of love with the music, or with the other lads in the band, but just that we started the band seven and a half years ago when we were young and carefree. Now, old, grizzled and with galloping senility it's a question of finding a way that we can fit Dugong into our adult lives alongside our other responsibilities and interests. No-one wants to give up Dugong but neither does anyone want to do it some sort of pointless and half-arsed way, going through the motions. So, come 2006 we'll all sit down to see if any of the energy or enthusiasm has returned to those of us that have lost it a little, and we'll discuss how we feel and whether we're going to be continuing or not. Watch this space.”
We’re keeping our collective fingers crossed that this isn’t the last we’ve heard from, in our opinion, one of the finest if not the finest band on the scene. As soon as we hear any further news we’ll let you know.
In the meantime the bands latest release, Quick to the City, is selling like hotcakes (having gotten fantastic reviews everywhere) while the band’s debut album, The Eastmoor Rules, is almost sold-out. With the band’s future up in the air we’re unsure whether it’ll be repressed straight away so make sure you pick it up while you can!

Dugong - Hat Danko Out Now

The long awaited follow up to The Eastmoor Rules is available now. Hat Danko features 10 tracks that show just how unique this band have become - comparing Dugong to any other band right now just doesn't do them justice, though while a trawl through their latest album does highlight influences from the likes of Karate, Buffalo Tom or Braid, the band incorporates them into something all their own.
Hat Danko should be appearing in shops and distros as of now, though it's available from us for £7.50 post paid. Cheques to Bombed Out Records.
Dugong are touring with DEEP ELM's Brandtson in July. The dates for which are shown below:
- 24th July - London, The Garage with The Weakerthans (no Dugong)
- 25th July - Cardiff, Oz Bar
- 26th July - Norwich, The Ferryboat - all Dayer with Joe Ninety, Blocko and more
- 27th July - Middlesbrough, Acklam Hotel
- 28th July - Liverpool, Slaughterhouse
- 29th July - Bournemouth, Mr Smiths
- 30th July - Kingston, The Peel
Note: The Exeter date is now cancelled.
