THERE'S A SADNESS AT THE HEART OF EVERYTHING

The South Wales underground rock and roll devotees return with their fifth album

Formed in Bridgend in the spring of ’07, Peachfuzz have journeyed from the indie-power-pop of their first two albums (2008’s So Here We Are Tonight and 2010’s Everything Takes Forever) through the beefier punk-tinged rock of 2012’s We Are Solid State and the measured alt-rock of their last album, 2015’s Raise High Your Bright Halo Of Stars.

Never wanting to release the same record twice, the current Peachfuzz line-up of Adam Jones (guitar/voice), Matthew Griffiths (bass/voice) and Jimmy Tiley (drums) have taken things back to basics with their latest album, There’s A Sadness At The Heart Of Everything.

Song lengths have been snipped and the layered guitar mangling has been stripped. The tunes and the harmonies remain (you can’t teach an old dog new tricks) and a light production (courtesy of Adam’s home recording set-up) seal the deal to give the record a sincerity and warmth that their 70s power-pop heroes would be proud of.

There’s A Sadness At The Heart Of Everything will be released by long-running DIY label, Bombed Out Records, on 27th October 2023, available on CD and digital download.

Raise High Your Brght Halo Of Stars

"The Peachfuzz boys are back and they’ve brought one of the best album titles of the year with them. Following the template established with well-received 2012 offering ‘We Are Solid State’, ‘Raise High…’ delivers another blast of intense guitar-driven rock that wields its huge, crystal clear production to drag you in and carve a smile onto your jaded, heard-it-all face. I could cite the traditional Peachfuzz influences such as Big Star, Social Distortion or Teenage Fanclub, but by this point the band has made their sound their own – there’s nobody else out there doing anything quite like this with as much passionate intent. This is joyful, anthemic stuff which nevertheless deals with some pretty heavy themes." Mass Movement

"This is guitar music played with hearts worn on sleeves, boots kicking down doors and a clear desire to just rock, and you know what? It does just that.  There’s nothing complicated going on with Peachfuzz.  They’ll find a tune and deliver it with as much verve and vigour as they can muster, leading the listener into total submission. Although Raise High Your Bright Halo of Stars has a more polished sound than its predecessor, We Are Solid State, which had more immediately in common with Social Distortion in terms of a gritty quality, it’s a very strong follow up and one to be embraced by anyone who wants to wield an air guitar and pretend they’re singing in front of a packed house of sweaty rock’n’roll souls.  Top notch stuff indeed. " Sugarbuzz Magazine

We Are Solid State

"Peachfuzz know how to knock out some rocking tuneage that deserves a wide audience as there is no doubting its potential appeal to a more mainstream crowd. I find this whole album an enjoyable romp and I think a lot of that is to do with the fact that the band members obviously love what they do. I've seen them live once and despite it being an alcohol-fueled night I clearly remember being impressed by the passion and effort that was displayed on the stage and which has been translated onto We Are Solid State." Punknews

"Big songs with woah-woahs and strong, distinctive vocals that remind me of something like Social Distortion but still sounding English. The Hold Steady would be in the same ball park although the vocals are definitely more in the 90s alt-rock area. Definitely check this out if any of the aforementioned bands or the likes of Soul Asylum are your thing." - Collective Zine

Everything Takes Forever

"I reviewed the band’s last demo and described them as like the Gin Blossoms and this full lengther, due to be released on Bombed Out later this year, solidifies that opinion. While the vocals are a bit more ‘throaty’ and less polished than Gin Blossoms, there’s a definite Replacements or even The Gaslight Anthem vibe to this band and this album. And it means this record is crammed full of huge singalong songs – from the opening ‘Sudden Glow’ right through to closer ‘For The Children Of Judas’ the band write catchy tune after catchy tune... Peachfuzz manage to bridge the gap between pop and punk perfectly and should draw in fans of both genres in equal measure. If there’s any justice, ‘Everything Takes Forever’ will get a stack of rave reviews." Punktastic
